KU Campus Resources
KU provides free access to Microsoft Office 365
Students can download a free copy of Office 365 by visiting mycommunity.ku.edu and logging in with their KU Online ID and password.
KU Information Technology
KU IT provides assistance with general technology questions. They also have information on how students can access the Microsoft Office 365 Suite Software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) for free.
KU Libraries
The KU Libraries have stationary computers, scanners, and printers available throughout their spaces available for use during their hours of operation. Students can also checkout laptops, headphones, voice recorders and calculators for free on a first-come, first-served basis in the Anschutz Library Learning Studio or at Watson Library. Technology is also available for check out at the Murphy Art & Architecture Library, the Spahr Engineering Library, and the Music & Dance Library.
KU Tech Shop
The KU Bookstore has a Tech Shop where students can purchase technology supplies. The Tech Shop also provides a trade-in service where individuals can trade in used electronics at market value.
Community Resources
PCs For People
PCs For People is a program based in Kansas City that assists low-income communities gain access to internet, computers, and training on digital literacy. Their Purchase A Computer Program provides refurbished, donated desktops and laptops at low prices for low-income individuals.
Emergency Broadband Benefit
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a per month discount towards broadband service for eligible households. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
Internet Essentials from COMCAST
Internet Essentials offers low-cost, high-speed internet to various groups, including students who are Pell Grant eligible. If you are approved for Internet Essentials through the application, you are then eligible to purchase a new laptop for as little as $150 through a separate application.
Lifeline
Lifeline is a federal program that lowers the monthly cost of phone or internet bills for eligible subscribers. Eligible customers will get a credit paid towards their monthly bill.
